Kid Cudi Breaks Silence on Testifying Against Diddy: “I Did It for Cassie” revealing his reluctance, support for Cassie, and how he handled backlash and courtroom tension.
Kid Cudi has spoken about one of the most intense moments of his career: taking the stand in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ high-profile sex trafficking trial.
During an interview with CBS News, the rapper behind “The Pursuit of Happiness” said he never wanted to testify. However, after being subpoenaed, he felt he had to help Cassie, who was at the center of the case.
“It was really hard. I didn’t want to do it. I got subpoenaed and I knew I was helping Cassie and I just wanted to be there for her… It was a tough situation.”
He revealed that the reaction was swift and not all of it was positive. While many fans applauded him for stepping up, others criticized him, assuming he broke some unspoken “street code” because he’s a rapper. His response was unapologetic: “I’m not no street dude. I don’t live by no code. My music has never been about that… I’m from the suburbs, baby, you know what I’m sayin’? Straight up. But I ain’t let it faze me… Fuck ’em.”
One of the most surreal parts of the experience for Cudi was coming face-to-face with Diddy after a long time. “It was weird, man, because that was the first time I had seen him in a while. We made eye contact a couple times. It was fucking weird, but I’m glad I got through it.”
Shortly after his testimony, Cudi shared a heartfelt message on social media, thanking fans for checking in and showing him love during what he described as a “stressful situation.” “You guys are the best. I love y’all. I’m glad it’s behind me.”
Kid Cudi is open about how his decision has affected him emotionally and stands by his choice, even when others criticize him. He makes it clear that he believes he did the right thing.
